Spending some time abroad, whether a week or a year, can help you greatly improve your English, learn more about another culture, and make new friends from around the world! Most importantly, you will gain academic skills which will improve your college applications. The applications for these programs are due early, so be sure to check the deadlines and get your application in order. Requests for your transcripts must be made to Mr. Dwyer early!

Academic and English Language Programs

• The University of Minnesota English Center. Here the MEC has English language programs of many types, including a 5-week summer program. This is a great way to kick-up your English level just before entering university.
• The English Language Center at Old Dominon University. This university in Virginia holds several English programs all year long, including a summer program.
• The International English Summer Camp at the University of Toronto. This summer program in Canada includes some fun cultural activities.
• Dickenson College in Pennsylvania has several excellent summer programs. There are academic and English language programs as well as a program especially for IB students to help them with their extended essay and other IB work.
• The Summer Discovery program is held at several university campuses in the USA. You can take classes in English, SAT Preparation, and other subjects.
• Cushing Academy in Massachusetts has a number of high quality summer programs at their campus.
• The Phillips-Exeter Academy in New Hampshire has a rich summer school, including programs in the arts.
• Phillips Academy Andover, in Massachusetts, offers a rigorous academic summer school.
• Shad Valley is a summer program at ten top Canadian universities which focuses on technology and science.
• IB Summer School at Stanford University in California helps IB students review for their IB exams and gives intense support for the extended essay.
• Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts has an intensive summer English program for science and engineering students.
• St. Clare's Oxford IB Institute is an excellent way for IB students to gain their essential research and writing skills at on of the world's oldest and most beautiful universities.
• Harvard University runs a summer school program with an enormous selection of intensive academic courses.
• The University of California at Riverside has an intensive English Language Program for younger students as well as a Summer Academy for advanced level students.

Adventure Education Programs

• Visions International has programs all over the world where students participate in a service project, as well as many outdoor recreational and cultural activities.
• Global Colleges has adventure programs in many exciting locations. There are intensive language programs for English as well as Spanish, French and Chinese. Programs in biology, leadership and the arts are also available.

Exchange Programs

• The Rotary International Clubs sponsor student exchanges around the world. Their programs can be short summer camps or a complete exchange for an academic year.
• The Academic Year in America, a program of AIFS, can place you with an American family for a whole year while you attend an American high school. In Turkey this program is administered through NIL.
