Physical Education Department
Mission and Objectives
The Physical Education Department works in line with Atatürk’s principles and the requirements of the national curriculum to attain the general and specific aims and objectives of the Physical Education course.
The physical education courses aim to enable the students to:
- Develop their skills of working in a group, which involves collaboration, sharing, socialization and positive personal growth,
- Learn how to use leisure time efficiently,
- Develop emotional stamina, self-confidence and the ability to find practical solutions to unexpected problems,
- Relax psychologically and mentally through play,
- Stay healthy and fit through exercise,
- Develop an awareness on the importance of healthy diet, hygiene and abstaining from substance abuse in order to maintain one’s well-being
- Acquire first aid skills,
- Develop their psychomotor skills to a level that allows them to participate effectively in a variety of activities that involve sports, performances, and exercises,
- Develop knowledge and understanding on the scientific, social and historical aspects of physical activity; and acquire positive attitudes and social skills.
In order to achieve the above-stated aims, the students are expected to:
In terms of health
- develop an awareness on the importance of warm-up and cool-down processes
- be able to intervene after minor injuries
- describe the requisites of basic hygiene
- distinguish the skills and knowledge required for doing specific sports from the general fundamental principals for maintaining a healthy lifestyle
- know the major muscle groups
- understand the relationship between cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary systems and muscular stamina; and know the appropriate methods of developing them.
In terms of creativity and expression
- develop their expression and communication skills
- maintain proper posture and balance
- act upon instructions
- move in keeping with various rhythms
- perform a simple choreographic sequence of movements with and without apparatus, accompanied by music
- perform a choreography that they have designed independently.
In terms of motor skills
- know the basic game principles
- develop tactics and spatial awareness
- display the skills of walking, running and jumping in various ways
- display basic skills by handling various objects with feet and hands
- display the appropriate skills and tactics in a structured game.
In terms of social skills
- cooperatively develop their abilities to contribute to group’s or individual’s success
- learn to work in a team and to abide by the rules and social values during play
- take into consideration others’ wishes and capacities
- accept referees’ decisions and abide by the rules
- organize a match, competition or game
- referee a game .
CULTURAL POLICY
OUR GRADUATES WILL:
- 1. know and be able to apply basic first aid skills
- 2. be aware of the significance of engaging in sports both for emotional and physical health; and be able to apply this awareness to their lives
- 3. have knowledge on hygiene and nutrition; will know the foods and substances that are harmful to the body and will abstain from using them
- 4. know the branches of world sports and the names of the athletes who succeeded in the Olympic Games. They will be familiar with nationally and globally renowned athletes from various sports
- 5. be familiar with and perform the basic elements of widespread sport branches and their sub-branches
- 6. be able to engage in the sports which are of interest to them in their everyday life (at least one of these sports will be a team sport)
- 7. be able to organize (small-scale) sports events and will be able to act as a referee in at least two different sports
- 8. be familiar with and apply the concepts of sportsmanship and fairplay (will know how to work in collaboration, to cooperate, to share and to act appropriately).
- 9. promote sports in their environment and set an example in this regard
- 10. possess basic knowledge on the historical development of the sports that they engage in
- 11. know Atatürk’s sayings on sports
- 12. cooperate with the Alumni Association to organize various sports events
- 13. be able to ensure their own safety and the safety of the environment while doing sports
- 14. have watched at least one ball-game live.

Music Department
The philosophy of the music department at Eyübo?lu is to offer music courses that enable the students to acquire a shared music repertoire that covers the music cultures in the world and in our country as well as reinforce and develop students’ awareness on national values and solidarity. Through its courses the music department targets to provide a holistic music education, which enables the students to develop in terms of cognitive, emotional and aesthetic aspects.
Aims and Objectives
The music courses aim to enable the students to:
- develop an understanding of the importance of music in the lives of peoples and societies,
- understand the fundamental constituents of music,
- familiarize with vocal and instrumental music and music ensembles,
- distinguish between the dynamics in different types of music,
- analyze the tonal and modal structures of music appropriate to their level,
- understand the general structure and the historical development of Turkish music; recognize some major samples of Turkish music,
- familiarize with major examples of music from Europe and from different parts of the world,
- understand Atatürk's views on arts and music,
- realize the relationship between music and technology,
- learn how to use their voices properly especially during the period when they are going through voice change,
- sing level-appropriate songs with expression and accuracy,
- recognize the differences in musical texture and style in the pieces of music that they listen to,
- sing and play level-appropriate pieces of music by paying attention to their tonal and modal characteristics,
- recognize the sounds of various musical instruments; familiarize with the playing techniques for those instruments that are available at school; and use software for this purpose,
- acquire a level-appropriate repertoire consisting of examples from a variety of countries as well as traditional and modern Turkish music,
- learn to enjoy instrumental and vocal music and show willingness to make music in a group;
- show willingness to understand the general structure and historical development of Turkish music,
- show interest in the modern applications of music technology,
- develop a desire to listen to various types of music throughout their lives,
- render music an indispensable part of their lives.
CULTURAL POLICY
OUR GRADUATES WILL:
- 1. be able to demonstrate a range of technical skills while using music confidently as a means of expression and communication
- 2. have knowledge on the performers and composers of Contemporary Turkish Music who represent our country internationally and the institutions in which such musicians were educated and trained
- 3. have thoroughly researched and delivered a presentation on at least one composer of contemporary Turkish Music each year
- 4. be able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical foundations of the studied music genres
- 5. have knowledge on the various genres, developments and ideas in music that have been developed through time and cultures; and will demonstrate their understanding through various applications
- 6. have fundamental knowledge on the basic (melodical and rhythmical) principles of composing; will be able to compose short pieces to express an idea, emotion or theme
- 7. have understood the importance, in terms of intercultural awareness, of participating in musical activities that are appropriate for their talents and interests at school or outside; and will have developed an understanding of the relationship between music and the world outside the school
- 8. have watched and acquired information on the major musicals and musical theaters that have been staged in Turkey and in other parts of the world
- 9. have researched the history of Turkish music (including classical and folkloric styles), will have created a product in this area and will have developed the ability to identify these styles of music by hearing them
- 10. know the voice types and the instrument types; and will be able to distinguish the vocal and instrumental ensembles that have been formed according to the type of music that they make
- 11. know and will have watched musical performances in at least three of the venues in Istanbul where musical events are organized. Furthermore, they will be aware of all the acoustic characteristics that a good concert hall must possess.
- 12. have developed the habit of behaving appropriately while watching a musical performance at a music venue
- 13. have gone to at least two concerts per year and will keep track of the artistic events that take place in their environment (concerts, recitals, musicals, interviews)
- 14. have developed the habit of reading the Arts-Music sections of daily newspapers
- 15. use relevant music terminology while demonstrating their aesthetic and critical awareness during discussions about musical works
- 16. use their voice and instruments effectively and will know and perform distinguished examples from Turkish and international repertoire.

Visual Arts Courses
Art is a way of humans’ expressing themselves through various activities and it should be an indispensable part of each student’s life.
Through art, students get the opportunity to work individually and as a group to explore, describe, discuss a variety of topics; express their opinions and ideas; reach solutions and decisions; and reflect upon, understand and evaluate various works of art.
The art courses contribute to the education process by providing a unique method of learning that combines visual, sensory, auditory, cognitive perception and creativity in a strong means of communication.
The aims of visual arts education include developing students’ knowledge on visual and contextual aspects of art created by various cultures; promoting students’ understanding of quality through explorations with a variety of media and conducting of meaningful creative work; enabling the students to find out about themselves as well as about others by engaging in visual arts individually or as a group.
Our IB program implementations and yearly plans are organized in line with these targets and we conduct a large variety of activities to attain our goals. The international programs provide different and new perspectives in visual arts education.
IB ART
Art education requires both intellectual and emotional efficiency.
Visual arts education provides the students with opportunities to express themselves regarding various topics, to make critical interpretations and to develop creative thinking, which is an asset that they will resort to throughout their entire lives.
Visual Arts is an important component of the IB program and it requires the students to:
- familiarize with art concepts, art criticism and analysis,
- develop and refine technical knowledge and skills while conducting work at the art-studios,
- develop an understanding of the socio-cultural and historical connections of VISUAL ARTS.
IB’s vision entails providing the students with the opportunities to:
- develop critical thinking,
- develop cultural understanding,
- be exposed to a variety of perspectives.
The aims of IB ART include enabling the students to:
- accumulate personal and aesthetic experiences in addition to knowledge and understanding in arts,
- develop a comprehensive and interlinked perspective regarding the past and present forms of visual arts,
- explore the different languages of various media and use them accurately and creatively to improve quality,
- discover more about themselves and about the environment through collaborative work.
The two-year advanced Visual Arts program that we offer to exceptionally talented students consists of two components: studio work and research workbooks.
In studio work, students are provided with opportunities for the structured learning of the aesthetic qualities of visual arts and the relationship between form and meaning as well as for making personal experiments and explorations.
The research workbook component covers research, discovery, interpretation and media experiments. Furthermore, the workbooks are required to include visual and written documents in parallel with the studio work.
At the end of the two years, the students open an exhibition of studio work conducted throughout the program. For assessment, the exhibition and students’ research workbooks are seen and discussed by a visiting IB examiner.
Mission
The mission of the Art Department is to:
- create an environment in which students learn to respect and appreciate others’ as well as their own ideas, efforts and works
- establish art education as a means of thinking by encouraging constant exploration and creativity
- identify talents in art
- enable the students to develop a perspective on visual arts, and an accumulation of knowledge and experiences that would enable them to take part in discussions related to visual arts
- inculcate in the students the habit of participating in artistic and cultural events
- encourage collaboration.
Aims
The art courses aim to enable the students to:
- acquire knowledge regarding visual arts in line with the aims of the national curriculum as stipulated by the Turkish Ministry of Education;
- develop their visual literacy so that they can become self-confident and proficient in evaluating and using art as a form of communication;
- develop artistic creativity;
- develop creative approaches that can be applied to a variety of areas;
- develop their personal understanding and technical skills to recognize their own ideas and create works of art;
- develop their aesthetic taste to the point of making informed judgments about art and design;
- develop their capacities to think, produce and explore originally;
- develop an aesthetic personality that enables them to abstain from disharmony and add beauty to their environments;
- express themselves through art, thus benefiting from art in terms of psychological health;
- prove and “find” themselves;
- contribute to the culture they live in, as producers or informed consumers of art;
- develop the attitudes of responsibility, cooperation and collaboration in individual or group work as well as an affection and respect for each other;
- understand that art means originality;
- recognize the ways in which art contributes to life;
- feel the satisfaction of producing an artistic creation and appreciate artists;
- develop the knowledge and skills related to formal expression;
- develop design-oriented imagination;
- familiarize with ancient ruins, monuments, museums, art galleries, studios and design ateliers; and undertake personal responsibility in preserving and conserving cultural and natural treasures.

- 3. be inquisitive and sensitive to artistic activities; keep track of artistic events; and keep abreast of current news on arts
- 4. are aware of and apply the methods and techniques used in visual arts
- 5. have planned and created two and three-dimensional designs
- 6. have acquired art terminology
- 7. will have visited at least three of the museums in Istanbul including Archeology Museum and Istanbul Modern Arts Museum
- 8. will have general information on Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Fauvism and the pioneers of these art movements
- 9. starting from first grade through the end of tenth grade, will have studied and thoroughly familiarized with Henri Rousseau, Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Paul Gaugin, Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas, Rembrandt, Nedim Günsür, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Füreyya Koral, Neşe Erdok, Kuzgun Acar, Mehmet Aksoy, Nuri İyem, Devrim Erbil
- 10. have attained artistic depth by developing a holistic perception of different branches of arts
- 11. be equipped to create awareness in the community through artistic activities
