Science Department
As the Science Department, our aim is to provide a contemporary science education and raise our students to become good citizens of their own homeland as well as of the world. In this regard, we do our best to ensure that our students develop a scientific approach by acquiring the techniques and methods of carrying out investigations, explorations and experiments. We engage our students in a variety of activities that constitute a part of modern science education such as enabling the students to write scientific articles, organizing field trips and conducting project work.
It is also our aim to ensure students’ participation/contribution in the implementation and assessment of the program and to develop their thinking skills and creativity.
We believe that this page will serve a dual function of informing our students and parents as well as providing a medium for exchange of ideas among professionals involved in education. Therefore, your feedback will be much appreciated.
Join us in our motto: “Efficient SCIENCE education for a better WORLD…”
SCIENCE EDUCATION AT EYÜBO?LU EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
In an innovative and pioneering institution as Eyübo?lu, science has a special place. We would like to share with you the approaches and methods that we adopt in our science courses at our schools, the students of which have won numerous international successes in addition to their undeniable success at home.
THE ESSENCE OF OUR PROGRAM
Science education at Eyübo?lu is primarily based on the national curriculum with an approach that avoids rote-learning while adopting student-centered, inquiry-oriented and research-based instruction that involves theoretical studies supported by hands-on learning experiences. We do not limit the application component of our courses to conducting science experiments only. We try to make sure that the students acquire the scientific research skills and techniques to a level where they can write scientific papers at international standards. We also aim to enable the students to establish links with the disciplines of Philosophy and Theory of Knowledge in their discussions and evaluations. The training that we receive from experts outside the schools enables us to be active outside the school borders as well as giving us the opportunity to compare ourselves with others.
AIMS OF SCIENCE COURSES
The Science Department aims to inculcate in the students a genuine interest in sciences and prepare them for higher levels of education.
Science Department’s expectations from the students include the following:
- Conduct simple scientific research under the supervision of their teachers using scientific techniques,
- Describe scientific observations, laws, hypotheses and theories,
- Use scientific terminology to express knowledge,
- Understand the relationship between Science disciplines,
- Collect, organize, analyze scientific data and show results in the form of tables or charts,
- Prepare and interpret graphic charts that show the results of science experiments,
- Grasp the connection between science and technology,
- Adopt a scientific approach towards problems and understand how science affects a developing society,
- Develop and maintain safe laboratory working habits,
- Familiarize with laboratory equipment and learn to use them properly,
- Abide by scientific ethics.
Our Targets
Our target is to enable the students to:
- Develop the understanding that problems can be solved through scientific methods,
- Develop the understanding that constructive, creative, critical and scientific thinking is the basis of technological advances,
- Show interest in and curiosity about the advances in science and technology; reflect the experiences they acquire in science courses to everyday life,
- Develop the skills of observation, research, investigation and experimenting which form the basis of scientific thinking,
- Develop the skills required for access to information, conducting analyses, approaching data in a creative way, making sound decisions, learning how to learn; and abstain from acquiring knowledge through memorization.
- Develop a well-adjusted attitude towards society and environment; familiarize with and cherish the environment and the natural resources as well as develop awareness on protecting and improving them,
- Acquire the information, skills and habits that are necessary for a healthy lifestyle,
