Turkish Language and Literature Department

Mission and Objectives

Within the scope of Turkish Language and Literature courses, our students attain the following by the end of high school. The students:

• develop knowledge on the renowned authors of Turkey and of the world.
• have knowledge on the contemporary Turkish authors.
• have read a minimum of three works per year from Turkish literature written in different genres.
• have read at least one piece of work from world literature written in different genres.
• have read a minimum of seven works from contemporary authors.
• know the Nobel Prize Winner for each year and his/her work.
• aware of the most significant prizes awarded in Turkish Literature and know the winners of such prizes. They have read at least one of the prize-winning works of literature.
• have visited at least three of the literature museums in Istanbul .
• have watched at least two theater plays each year.
• have conducted at least two interviews each year with the renowned men of letters.
• are aware of the programs related to literature broadcasted on television.
• are aware of the literature magazines.
• have developed the habit of reading at least one daily newspaper.
• respect Turkish language; they take care to use language properly, correctly and fluently in everyday life.

CULTURAL POLICY

OUR GRADUATES WILL:

• 1. be familiar with renowned writers from Turkish and World Literature
• 2. be familiar with contemporary Turkish writers
• 3. have read at least 3 works from Turkish Literature – in different genres - each year
• 4. have read at least 1 work from World Literature – in different genres - each year
• 5. have read at least 7 works from contemporary writers
• 6. know the Nobel Prize winners in Lilerature every year
• 7. know the significant awards in Turkish Literature and the works that won such awards. They will have read at least one of the award-winning works.
• 8. have visited at least three of the literature museums in Istanbul
• 9. have watched at least two theater plays each year
• 10. have made interviews with at least two contemporary writers each year
• 11. know the literature programs broadcasted on television
• 12. be familiar with literature magazines
• 13. have developed the habit of reading at least one daily newspaper
• 14. be respectful to the Turkish language; take care to use language accurately in everyday life; and try to use language effectively.
