Speaking
By the end of Grade 7 the students should be able to talk a bout their ideas and opinions in different contexts.
They should :
Change what and how they say things in different situations and people (formal/informal).
Use body language, correct speed and stress.
- Use basic visual aids.
- Speak for 3-4 minutes so that listeners can understand.
- Use new vocabulary, structures and grammar at a good level.
- Speak English in and out of the classroom.
- Participate in class discussions.
- Speak with good pronunciation and grammar.
Listening
By the end of Grade 7 the students should be able to listen, understand and respond to a variety of topics.
They should :
Listen for specific information and the main idea (instructions, conversations, discussions, interviews, discussions, class arguments).
Take notes after listening.
Use what you know to predict what words will come.
Listen to English TV programmes, films, radio and documentaries.
Reading
By the end of Grade 7 the students should be able to read and understand texts by themselves for fun and for study.
They should be able to:
Use a dictionary.
Read a novel, take notes, answer questions about new passages, express your response in their own words.
Read for the main idea, specific information and details.
Use what they know to predict what will happen in their reading.
Use information from situations to help them guess new vocabulary.
Think about opinions, attitudes and the meaning of what they read.
Recognise different literary vocabulary like "conflict, climax, atmosphere, resolution, foreshadowing and internal/external conflict" in poems, short stories and novels.
Read non-fiction texts to help them take notes and summarise while researching a topic
Writing
By the end of Grade 7 the students should be able to write in many styles at with good level of vocabulary and grammar.
They should :
Brainstorm, plan, draft, redraft and proof-read their work.
Organise their ideas and information.
Use helping, or supporting ideas.
Use transitions.
Use a variety of correct punctuation.
Use new vocabulary and grammar (3rd conditional, present perfect, passives) correctly
Show their work in a neat way.
Produce around 400 words of original examples of :
A narrative, a summary, description, an informal letter, a d iary
Collect and save their original work in a 'Creativity Folder' that they keep in the classroom.

GRADE 7 ENGLISH PROGRAMME
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Grade 7 English programme aims to enable the students to communicate accurately in English through speaking and writing, to learn about different cultures through course books and literary texts, to become individulas who are sensitive towards ethical and social values. The programme also aims to help students develop the four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) as well as their study skills. All these studies are carried out according to the objectives defined in the MYP ( IB Middle Years Programme).
KEY CONTENT
Listening
Grade 7 English Listening programme aims to enable the students to understand what they listen to, to answer questions, to watch and understand films that are suitable for their age and language level, to take notes while listening to texts, documents or guest lecturers.
Speaking
The students are expected to speak about varied topics, to express themselves in different situations, to change what and how they say things in different situations and people (formal/informal), to speak for 3-4 minutes using the newly acquired vocabulary and language structures so that listeners can understand them, to use visual aids, to participate in class discussions, to speak Eglish in and outside the classroom.
Reading
The students are expected to read and understand texts by themselves for fun and for study, to read for the main idea, specific information and details, to answer questions about the text, to deduce the meaning of the unknown words using the textual clues, to use a dictionary, to internalise the literary elements and terms in poems, short stories and novels, to do research by reading and taking notes.
Writing
The writing course enables the students to write for a range of purposes with a good range of vocabulary and a good level of grammatical accuracy, to produce around 400 words of examples of a letter, a composition, a book report, a short story, film/book critique, to follow all the steps of process writing (brianstorming, organising notes, editing) All the students are expected to keep their written work in a Creativity Folder. Students will also be engaged in journal writing English lessons to promote fluency of expression.
RAMMAR AND VOCABULARY
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of grammar and vocabulary. They are encouraged to pay attention to accuracy in their writing and speaking. The students will use the following books to reach the aims stated above:

METHODS AND TECHNIQUES
During in-class activities the following methods and techniques are used: Question and answer, discussion, comparison, dramatisation, group/pair work, peer and self evaluation. In lessons are student-centered where the teacher is the guide.
ASSESSMENT
The student work is assessed in the foolowing ways.
Common Exams are given to test the students' listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary foundations.
Oral Presentation: Students preparea 3-4 minute oral presentation about a topic that they do research on. They are trained at giving an oral presentation and they are introduced to all the steps and the criteria of this process. After the presentation the students evaluate themselves, their peers and they are evaluated by the teacher.
Creativity Folder: (This is a collection of student work - work to go into the folder will be decided on by the teacher and student throughout the year. Each term 4 pieces (2 chosen by the student, 2 chosen by the teacher) are graded. The students are given constant feedback about their work. They are required to evaluate their work and to present the folder content orally. The grades go into the report card.
In-class work and attitude: The students' classroom participation and attitude towards the lesson will be evaluated.
Homework: What is learnt in the classroom can only be improved through constant revision and consistent commitment and honesty towards homework. Utmost care should be paid to deadlines for homework.
Using the assessment tools mentioned above, the students will be given 4 written grades (1 summer reading exam +3 common exams) and 3 oral grades in the first term. In the second term they will be given 3 written and 3 oral grades. All the exam are preapared and checked by the level teachers cooperatively.
